The port is protected by sea stuns, and two converging breakwaters. The entrance breadth is approximately 400m. The port is divided into two harbors separated by coal berths and the inner breakwater. The first harbor is called the inner dock and is used mainly for handling general cargo. The second harbor is called the outer harbor. With a water area of 600 hectares, the second harbor is used for oil and bulk cargo traffic. The approach area is 3km away from the straight entrance, with a depth varying from 30-35m. There are 2 straits leading to the port; The Great Pass, a large strait 2000m Long, 220m wide, and 14m deep, and the Boghaz pass, a smaller strait 1600m long, 100m wide, and 9m deep.
