Damietta port

Our ports

Damietta Port is situtaed 10.5km west of the Damietta Branch extending from the Nile River into the Meditteranean sea and 70km East of Portsaid Port. The port is boarded by an imaginary line connceting the Eastern and Western breakwaters with its installations extending over an area of 11.8 square meters.

Navigation Channels

Entrance Channel

The port's entrance channel is 11.4 km long, 300 meters wide and 15 meters deep. It's width gradually decreases from 300 meters to 250 meters at the breakwater fringe. The approach channel is boarded by 18 nightly-lit buoys.

Breakwaters

The port has 2 breakwaters; the Western Breakwater and the Eastern Breakwater. The Western Breakwater is1640 meters long with 140 meters of its length being land based and the remaining 1500 meters being sea-based. The Eastern breakwater is 750 meters long with 250 meters of its length being land based and the remaining 500 meters being sea-based. Both breakwaters are constructed out of artificial acrobod piles topped with a concrete head.

Barge Channel

The barge channel is 4500 meter, 90 meters wide and 5 meters deep. It consists of 2 sections; the first is 1350 meters long connecting the barge dock to the sea, while the second is 3750 meters long connecting the basin to the Damietta Nile Branch. The barge dock area is 250 meters x 250 meters comprising a 250 meters long 5 meters deep quay.

Turning Dock

The turning dock diameter is 500 meters with a 14.5 meters depth at the container berth and 12 meters depth at the general cargo berth.

 

Pilotage is compulsory. Charges are payable in accordance with the decree 60/1998 concerning Egyptian vessels and the decree 73/1998 concerning foreign vessels. Transshipment Containers are accorded 20-25% reduction according to the decree 40/1998. Container carriers transiting the Egyptian ports are accorded 75% reduction.

Port Restrictions

  • No shifting pontoons allowed ashore. Pontoons can only be shifted on vessel’s deck and cannot be offloaded on Quay. In case needed, Trucks must be arranged to offload pontoons on them if no place on deck for shifted pontoons after needed permits being granted
  • Painting is not allowed and can only be performed at shipyard quay
  • Welding & hot works can only be performed through agency by approved company after granting port permits
  • No Hotworks after sunset
  • Washing/Cleaning and any pollution leading activities are not allowed
